Purpose
The purpose of this document is to explain the Contingency Planning
Program Process. The process for implementing a Contingency Planning
Program and creating effective contingency plans will be discussed
in detail. The steps that will be discussed are as follows:
- Step 1 Project Development and Initiation Phase
- Step 2 Analysis and Data Gathering Phase
- Step 3 Review Results and Develop Recovery Strategies
- Step 4 Design and Development of Policies and Standards
- Step 5 Create and Implement Plans (both business and
technical)
- Step 6 Plan Testing and Training (Awareness)
- Step 7 Plan Audit and Maintenance
These steps represent the key elements in implementing a comprehensive
and practical Contingency Planning Program. The responsibility
of the planning process generally falls under the position of the
Contingency Planning Department, which is typically a functional
or resource group within a company. However, if the company
does not have a Contingency Planning Department, you will need to
appoint a “Contingency Planning Coordinator or Manager”.
This person develops the strategy in cooperation with other managers
associate with business and technology operations.
The Contingency Planning Coordinator also typically manages development
and executive of contingency plans. All business and technology
components that support or process electronic protected health information
must have developed contingency (recovery) plans.
